The Conversion Process « Creating Space Lofts
After you call us, one of the team will come round to your house, talk to you about your needs, check that a conversion is possible, look for any potential problems, and then discuss the possibilities with you. After this, a detailed quote will be sent to you and if you are happy, the work can begin.
Planning. Our architect will come round and discuss your aims for the conversion with you. By viewing the property and getting a feel for your needs, he will then go away and draw up the plans. Once you have had a chance to view them and suggest any changes you may require, we will submit them to the council for planning permission if required. (See here for laws on permitted development). This can take from eight week onwards, depending on the council.
Work Commences. Once we have permission to begin working, we will draw up a schedule of works which enables you to understand how long the conversion will take and why. The scaffolding goes up, the materials are delivered and with minimum intrusion to your current living space, the work begins in earnest. This may involve us removing part or all of your roof and strengthening your existing roof structure.
Breaking Through. Once the plumber, electrician, joiner, roofer and brick layer have done their initial work, we will break through from the loft into your house and put the stairs in. This will connect the old with the new and be the first time that the conversion really impacts upon your home.
Finishing off. Once the stairs are in, we can begin to add the finishing touches to your conversion. The skirting boards, light fixings, plastering and tiling take place to ensure that your conversion is finished to a high standard and ready for you to decorate. If you wish, we can take that hassle away as well and even do the decorating for you. Whatever you decide, we will leave you with the living space you had dreamed off, finished to the highest possible standards.
